The German Shepherd is one of many herding breeds. The natural instinct and the power of the
German Shepherd can move livestock from one place to another and then with the stock handler's
assistance, perform other tasks.
Learning how to communicate with your dog trough training, develops a working partnership in
building confidence and temperament.
A young dog sees the livestock move and instinct comes alive, his purpose for living suddenly
apparent.
Although a German Shepherd can be used to move stock, separate the herd in groups,
like say, a border collie, the true use of the German Shepherd is to patrol the boundaries of
the pasture where the stock is grazing. They drive back any animal than move to close to the
border of the pasture, but they do not 'stalk' the stock as a border collie would.
In addition to keeping the stock within the confines of the pasture, the German Shepherd assists
the shepherd to move the herd from one pasture to another, keeping the flock away from dangers,
such as cars and obstacles.
Tezmaral's goal is to become involved in breeding and developing the German Shepherd as a livestock
tending dog for which they were originally bred.
